My head is heavy
My eyes are swollen
My body aches
Everything hurts
And yet I feel nothing
I’ve become numb to the world
The sun breaks through my window and I hide further under my covers
I want to hide from the world, from myself
I hear voices beckoning me to return
The pain drowns out their pleas
I don’t know what’s wrong with me
The muscles in my body are weak
I can barely stand
My lungs gasping for oxygen
I’ve become numb to the world
The sun pushes through my window
It’s warmth creeping on me
My mind is lifted
Exhale my sadness
My fingers curl
My heart is light
My eyes smile
A memory recalls
Peace settles into my body
I look at my reflection
Inhale
exhale
I smile
Serenity
