The smell of roasted beans consumes her sense of smell. Her body shivers slightly by the breeze of the A/C as she walks in. The door chimes and she is greeted by warm faces. She smiles back, staring at the menu unsure of what to choose. She hums with excitement.
Her usual order rolls off her tongue. With a swipe of her card she’s in her seat. She huffs as she pulls out her laptop not excited for what’s to come. She opens her computer to a blank document. Her fingers trembling, unsure what key to press, what word to make or what sentence to form.
Her name is called from a deep female voice. Her attitude immediately perks up. Her cup is warm in her hand and she can smell the tantalizing scent of her vanilla cafe latte. She feels content.
She looks around as she sips her coffee. The taste is addicting. She watches the people waiting for a spark. A tiny light to switch inside her brain making her molecules illuminate and her fingers dance along the keyboard.
She notices a couple through the reflection of the window in front of her. She watches the way the boy seems enamored by the girl sitting across from him. She notices how the girl lights up and giggles at his storytelling. Such a private moment being witnessed. They looked happy in their little bubble. Looking at them made her heart ache. Not because of the love but because of the happiness. But she begins to think that it’s normal to not always be happy. It’s okay to feel low and not yourself.
With that thought she began writing.
Life will always be a roller coaster. It’ll be unpredictable and scary. There will be moments of weakness and great strength. Moments of uneasiness and utter joy. And although right now I feel like I’m in limbo I know I’ll be out of it soon. Nothing lasts forever just like how the coffee next to me won’t always be warm. Just take it one day at a time and remember to do things that bring you joy. You’ll notice how quickly your life will begin to turn around. Grab every opportunity, send every resume, live every chance you get. Just don’t forget to breathe.
So live in this rut your living in. But don’t settle for it. Everyone hits a block. Whether it’s a writer’s block, post graduation or drastic life changes. Live in those moments to learn from them and then live.
Just don’t forget to breathe.
“Do stuff. Be clenched, curious. Not waiting for inspiration’s shove or society’s kiss on your forehead. Pay attention. It’s all about paying attention. Attention is vitality. It connects you with others. It makes you eager. Stay eager.”
